Funding

The school is financed by sponsors and donations.  Sponsors each pay a minimum of £50 a year to sponsor a child.  Sponsorship pays for over 50% of the annual running costs of the school, principally the payment of teachers’ salaries.  The shortfall in running costs and other capital projects are completed as a result of donations from individuals, organisations and fundraising activities.  We are particularly grateful for all the support in recent years from the Friends of Prospect House School.

Other fundraising events have included Gambian Evenings in the village hall at Stiffkey, where Gambian food was eaten and entertainment was provided by Jole drummers. There has also been a Gambian evening held at Temple Balsall in the West Midlands.

Like all charities, the Albaraca Nursery School has seen a decline in funds raised in 2020/1 due to the impact of Covid 19 and the cancellation of many regular fundraising events. Although the school has sufficient income and reserves to continue in the short term, this issue will need to be addressed long term. There is some compensation in the fact that the Gambian trustees have agreed that parents of pupils at the school should pay a monthly contribution of £1 towards their child’s education (but that no child will be excluded if their family are unable to pay the contribution).

Sponsorship

The current annual sponsorship is a minimum of £50.  All sponsorship money goes directly towards the running of the school. 

Sponsorship money is payable in August to coincide with the start of the school year.  All sponsors will be sent a sponsorship form in July to complete and return, together with a cheque.  Payment can also be made by bank transfer or standing order.

During the first term (i.e. before Christmas) sponsors will receive a photo of their child and a newsletter. At the end of the school year, sponsors will be sent a school report on their child’s progress during the year.
